چکیده

Background Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) has a stable place in the diagnostics of various forms of the diffuse parenchymal lung disease. The analysis of cellular components of the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) informs us about inflammatory and immune processes in the alveolar space. This can be very helpful in the diagnostics of many interstitial lung diseases (ILDs), but also in the diagnostics of pulmonary haemorrhage and bronchoalveolar carcinoma or lymphomas. The aim of study is to present our experience in cellular analysis of BALF.

Altered bactericidal activity against Staphylococcus aureus in tuberculous bronchoalveolar lavage fluids.

We wished to evaluate the pulmonary defence capacity against common bacterial infections in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis. Bactericidal activity against Staphylococcus aureus of bronchoalveolar lavage fluids (cell-free supernatants) of patients with active (n = 13) and inactive pulmonary tuberculosis (n = 8), and normal individuals (n = 6), were studied. The 2 and 4 h bactericidal activi...

Morphometric and DNA image analysis of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid macrophages nuclei in interstitial lung diseases with lymphocytic alveolitis.

Lymphocytic alveolitis is a characteristic of diverse interstitial lung diseases (ILD-s), but macrophages are often more numerous cell population in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF). Aim of this study is to analyze morphometric characteristics of macrophages nuclei in BALF in patients with ILD-s and to detect possible differences allowing distinguishing sarcoidosis from other lymphocytic alv...

Lymphocytic alveolitis in a crematorium worker.

An asymptomatic cremator was found incidentally to have lymphocytic alveolitis by bronchoalveolar lavage, and the basis for this finding was investigated. No known causes of lymphocyte alveolitis including sarcoidosis, hypersensitivity pneumonitis, berylliosis, tuberculosis, or fungal diseases of the lung were found. By exclusion, therefore, exposure to formaldehyde and/or to compounds in the r...

Lymphocytosis Among Group B Patients without Respiratory Symptoms and with Normal Chest X - ray Film

We observed 276 HIV-infected patients to determine the frequency, degree, and clinical presentation ofthe lymphocytic alveolitis in different stages of H1V disease, and also to identify the lymphocyte subsets involved. In 154 patients with proved lung infections or tumors (group A), bronchoalveolar lavage fluid showed lymphocytosis in 78 percent of cases. In 122 subjects (31 AIDS and 91 IIIV-in...

Heterogeneity of bronchoalveolar lavage cellularity in stage III pulmonary sarcoidosis.

Three cases of stage III pulmonary sarcoidosis are presented. Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) revealed normal cell differential counts in the right middle lobe of each patient, but high-intensity lymphocytic alveolitis in the right upper lobe. These findings suggest that BAL should be done in multiple segments of the lung to obtain a truly representative picture of the intensity of the alveolitis ...
